Wieliczka Salt Mine

Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the most eagerly visited tourist sites in Poland. Its unique character and beauty was created by nature about 15 million years ago. During almost nine centuries of salt exploitation, the Salt Mine developed into an extensive underground city.

Nowadays it is a complex labyrinth of over 300 km of galleries, 3000 chambers and nine floors, the last of them at 327 m underground. The guide will show you shafts, brine lakes, mining machines and equipment, sculptures and the most impressive St. Kinga's Chapel. The temperature of the Mine is at a constant 14 C/57 F. Warmer clothing is recommeded.

The bus leaves from andel's Hotel after the morning session and will return in time for the afternoon session. Lunch box is handed out and you will have time to eat before entering the Salt Mine in Wieliczka.
The Old Town and the Wawel Castle
This walking tour will include Europe's largest medieval square and St Mary's Church with its famous altar designed by Veit Stoss. Every hour the bugle calls from the tower of the church and ends suddently as a memory of the archer who killed the trumpeteer in 1241. In the middle of the square you find the Cloth Hall, a Medieval structure used for centuries by tradesmen and merchants.

The Royal Route lead us passed monasteries, churches and small quaint streets to the foot of Wawel Hill and the Royal Castle, a splendid renaissance building, with a beautiful three-story arcaded courtyard. Inside, the decoration of the Sala Poselska is unique with its 30 sculptured wooden heads in the ceiling. The castle exhibits a large and rare collection of tapestries, furniture, art and paintings.

The tour starts outside St. Mary's church at 13.30 hrs. Good walking shoes are recommended.
